About the Event

Our second online workshop will also follow the theme of applying Python to geoscience.

For this event geoscience PostDoc Euan Soutter from the University of Manchester will hold a beginners level workshop covering the application of Python programming for geologists.

Python is an open-source computer programming language that is increasingly being utilised in the geosciences for the processing and plotting of data, numerical modelling, and machine learning. Python has many benefits, such as the ability to quickly share your logic and results with others, thus allowing your work to be reviewed, improved and reproduced by others.

Unfortunately, many geoscientists do not get the opportunity to receive any training in computer programming and its applications for their own research. This short course aims to address this by introducing Python and some of its simple geoscience applications to someone with no background in Python. It is hoped that by the end of this short course you will see how Python can be utilized for your research, whether that be for just plotting some field data or for more complex numerical analysis, and be encouraged to take your learning further.

The event is limited to 30 participants and will take place using the Zoom platform on 24th March at 13:00 to 16:00 (CET/GMT+1)
